Light Room v ACDSeeI'm a total creature of habit. I've used ACDSee for years, i know my workflows, i know what to expect from the program and IMHO it's intuitive. I open files just like I'm using windows explorer. My hierarchy is mine, my folders are my folders and to me ACDSee is not only my basic editor (i still use Photoshop for the major stuff), my RAW converter and my uploader, it's my picture viewer. I'm now trying Lightroom again, I'm trying to be open to the learning curve. I hear it's a very power editing tool that also will improve workflows. I'm stuck on the fact that to view files it seems you have to import them into the program first from your hard drive. Please say it ain't so! Can someone tell me if there is a way to simply navigate to my photos and open them. Importing seems time consuming. Also, do i really have to create libraries and catalogs? I already have everything the way i want it. It's this same reason i hate itunes. Your thoughts? Comments

Go to File/Auto Import/Auto Import Settings then choose which folder from which to select. Enable Auto Import and I believe that's all you have to do.

I was in the same boat with all of my images saved outside of LR and didn't want to have to import them. I now have it set up so that my images auto import into LR from a particular location so I know they are images to be worked on. I like it and helps to keep me organized with just one library. It may be that you can work on images without importing them but for me it isn't a problem with the auto import. Just my .02c
